I was especially impressed to read about Nick Jacobson’s nomination for state representative in our 85th District.
How often is it that we could have a local representative with a Yale education in ethics, politics, and economics?
How often is it that we could have a local representative with compassion and social responsibility who would work on making our lives better with public education, health care, community and housing development, and safe and fair working conditions?
How often is it that we could have a local representative who chooses the moral high road by not attacking his opponent’s character but simply arguing policy and rational problem-solving strategies? How often is it that my youngest, highly critical son, who was in high school with this possible representative, although not a personal friend, would say Nick was known as a very brilliant, hard-working, deeply caring student?
Unlike Nick, I am afraid I must digress from the moral high road and ask of his opponent: How often is it helpful for a leader to pose with a beer and no mask during a nation’s worst pandemic, with people dying all over our country, and then sarcastically wish the governor a Happy Thanksgiving?
And as for the opponent’s predecessor, might I ask, how often is it helpful to compare a twice impeached, corrupt, volatile, sexually aggressive, and now convicted felon to the scourging, beating, nailing, stabbing, and crucifixion of Jesus Christ?
It seems to me the answers to these questions are as clear as can be, and I hope everyone in the 85th District will vote accordingly.
