The world feels entirely upside down, as if we’ve slipped through Alice’s looking glass. We are entangled in a de facto war, yet a do-nothing Congress refuses to act. While the vice president claims nuclear negotiations with Iran are “going well,” the president contradicts this the very next day, calling Iran’s leadership “scum” and declaring the ceasefire over as both nations continue to trade fire. Domestically, the hypocrisy is just as glaring. A president who claims to be the voice of the forgotten working class has nearly tripled his net worth in less than two years into his second term. Blatant conflicts of interest plague the administration and the Trump family, yet the Republican-controlled Congress looks the other way, waiting out the next 24-hour news cycle. If you hope local representatives are finally exercising checks and balances, think again. Representatives Dan Meuser, PA-9, and Glenn Thompson, PA-15, have completely failed to hold the administration accountable. Instead, they remain steadfast allies and vocal defenders of the president’s actions. We cannot afford more of the same. This November, we urgently need a change. It is time to elect representatives who will actually work for their constituents rather than for wealthy donors and a misguided administration.
