I have known Nick Jacobson most of his life, and I know he is an intelligent, compassionate, hardworking leader. He could take his Yale education and make millions of dollars in the private sector but has chosen fewer financial rewards of public service. He is thus a good man with deep interests in looking forward and making all our lives better, even at a cost to himself.

Nick is a lifelong Pennsylvanian who grew up and has spent his entire life in Snyder and Union counties. He attended our public schools, graduating from Lewisburg Area High School. He knows the people of District 85 and their needs like the back of his hand.

Looking forward to the future of his state, Nick is particularly interested in the Pennsylvania education system and has many ideas for improving it. He knows well-educated future adults will be better equipped to improve the state even more.

But Nick stands for much more: a balanced budget, the right to vote for every citizen, and the right of a woman to make all her decisions about her health with her doctor and/or her minister without politicians intervening. He is for reasonable regulations on gun purchases, including background checks on all sales, temporary collection of firearms when a court finds the owner an extreme risk, and the inclusion of “ghost” guns in these regulations (and that’s all).

Nick supports strengthening and broadening broadband service throughout the state. He supports unions and, coming from a family with two grandfathers who fought in France in World War II and Korea in the Korean War, he wants to see no veteran without a home and all veterans provided with physical and mental health care.

Nick clearly understands he must represent all the constituents of the 85th district: Democrats, Republicans — even MAGA Republicans, members of minority parties, and independents. He is willing, indeed, anxious to work across the aisle.

And Nick doesn’t consider compromise defeat; compromise is good politics for Nick Jacobson. He understands that he cannot get all he wants in every bill or win every argument outright. He is a born dealmaker.

His opponent this November, David Rowe, on the other hand, was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and attended Sun Yat-Sen University in Taiwan. After returning to the States in 2010, Rowe established LBG Fitness Inc., a CrossFit gym, which closed a few years later.

Rowe’s record reveals his allegiance to a minority of Pennsylvanians. In 2020, Rowe was among 26 Pennsylvania House Republicans who called for the reversal of Joe Biden’s certification as the winner of Pennsylvania’s electoral votes. He has voted against bipartisan bills to fund our local public schools, expand the child tax credit to help our families, and protect Pennsylvanians with preexisting conditions seeking health insurance. And he hasn’t passed one of his own bills into law in three years!

Rowe has never represented all the people of the 85th District. In fact, in my 60 years in Union County, my representatives have been Republican for all but four, and I have felt pretty much without representation in Harrisburg.

So, if you believe the 85th District needs better leadership, why not vote for Nick Jacobson and see what he can do about it?
