Over the course of her 25-plus year career, Harris has built a solid reputation as a tough prosecutor. As an attorney, she protected children by prosecuting cases of child sexual abuse. As the district attorney of San Francisco, she worked to increase conviction rates for those accused of rape and murder, and she created initiatives for reducing gun violence and recidivism.
Later, as the attorney general of California, she fought criminal syndicates and drug traffickers. She also prosecuted big banks for cheating homeowners, corporations for polluting the environment, for-profit colleges for taking advantage of students, and pharmaceutical companies for dangerous and deceptive practices.
Donald Trump did not spend his life fighting crime but skirting the law. He was found liable for sexually assaulting a newspaper columnist. He faces serious charges for endangering national security by illegally taking and refusing to give up classified documents. He is under indictment in Georgia for attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 election. He was impeached for abuse of power and obstruction of justice. He was impeached a second time for inciting an insurrection by encouraging his supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol.
