Better late than never, but it is curious how some congressional Republicans have finally found a spine to push back against the insanity of the $1.8 billion “Anti-Weaponization” fund and the ludicrous $1 billion request for a White House ballroom. This sudden moral outrage feels highly suspect. With the mid-term elections fast approaching, this shift is clearly fueled by Donald Trump using his political weight to seek revenge against members of his own party in the primaries. While I welcome resistance to these latest executive obsessions, the sincerity of these politicians is highly questionable. Notably, our local representatives, Dan Meuser and Glenn Thompson, along with our state senators, have remained as silent as the grave. Where was this outrage when the administration instituted tariffs that raised prices for everyday Americans? Where was the pushback when the White House obstructed the release of the Epstein files, or in response to the inhumane actions of ICE? Where was the accountability when we entered a war of choice with Iran without a clear exit plan? Despite controlling both the House and the Senate, Republicans squandered countless opportunities to provide a meaningful check on executive overreach. As the sayings go, “never look a gift horse in the mouth” and “better late than never.” However, voters must recognize this eleventh-hour posturing for what it is. We have a critical choice in the upcoming midterms. It is time to exercise our collective agency and flip both chambers of Congress to restore
predictable, necessary checks and balances.
