Interacting with candidates for elected positions can be seen as daunting and uncomfortable. These are individuals with staff who might hover over the candidate and manage their time and comments. Candidates might have numerous talking points, prepared responses, and lack genuine interpersonal skills. Not so for Ray Bilger, candidate for U.S. Congress for Pennsylvania’s 15th Congressional District. I had the distinct pleasure of speaking with Ray at a Lewisburg event. We chatted about family, how he takes time to recharge from a grueling campaign, his goals as a person, as an individual, as an American supporting PA-15 constituents. Ray did not spew prepared comments to me. He did not veer into politics, in fact. Instead, he talked with me, person-to person. I learned a lot about his values. I learned a lot about his humanity. Glenn Thompson has held office since 2008. When did he last hold an open Town Hall meeting anywhere in the district? When was he last in Union County, available to constituents without controlling the audience? When did he vote in the interests of the people and not Trump? He’s not interested in what we have to say or what we need. Ray Bilger is intensely interested and will represent all constituents with fairness and consistent values.
