There are many things we have in common regardless of our politics: walking in the woods, watching our children play outdoors, admiring the view from the top of a mountain, having a picnic, tending our gardens, summer days with blue skies and puffy white clouds. I’ve really been enjoying the snow and crisp clean air over the past few weeks.

Well, friends, I’m scared of what might be coming this summer (and in summers to come). How many smoky, hazy, or unbearably hot days will we have?

Will it be another summer where we check air quality before going outdoors? Where day care centers keep children inside because the air is so unhealthy? And what about people who make their living working outdoors? What can we do?

We can support candidates who believe scientists and seek to solve the problem of climate change.

President Biden has recognized climate change as one of the crises facing our country. He does not ignore or deny it but instead has made investments to fight the problem and help our communities deal with wildfires. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act included over $7 billion to mitigate and respond to wildfires.

Climate change isn’t a political issue. It’s a health issue that affects all of us. The solution to it requires the action of our elected officials. If you love your neighbors and this beautiful Susquehanna Valley, then please join me in voting democratic.
